The tension between the family of Reynaldo De Guzman and the members of the Philippine National Police-Crime Investigation and Detection Unit (PNP-CIDG) on Tuesday had prompted the Witness Protection Program (WPP) to tighten the kin’s security.
“Ang gusto namin secure talaga, mahirap na, baka masingitan kami,” WPP’s Intelligence Service Operations Group (ISOG) Chief Ernie Talabucon told the media Wednesday after De Guzman’s hasty funeral rites in Pasig City Public Cemetery.

“Kasi kahapon nagkatensyon, diba, sa CIDG (There was tension with the CIDG yesterday, right)?”
Talabucon, however, did not say whether the threat to the security of the boy’s family came from the CIDG.
All throughout the ceremony, the parents wore bulletproof vests and were escorted by ISOG forces and members of the Volunteers against Crime and Corruption.
The boy’s identity was put into question following the PNP’s DNA test indicating that the body was not of De Guzman because it did not match the samples taken from his parents, Eduardo Gabriel and Lina De Guzman.
The contention led to the CIDG’s attempt to take the body from its funeral in Cainta, Rizal on Tuesday. The parents refused to give the body, which then led to a commotion.

Eduardo and Lina, however, insisted it was their son because of his wart on his left knee and the scar on his neck.
De Guzman’s family proceeded directly to the Department of Justice (DOJ) after the funeral rites to be formally admitted to the WPP. /idl
