Brace for ‘serious flooding’ – Pagasa

The state weather bureau on Tuesday afternoon warned of serious flooding in Metro Manila and nearby areas as Tropical Depression “Maring” crossed Rizal-Metro Manila.

The “red” rainfall alert was raised over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan and Rizal at 2 p.m.

“Serious flooding is expected in flood-prone areas,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Flooding is threatening over Cavite, Laguna, Batangas as Pagasa issued the “orange” warning level.

Zambales and Quezon were placed under “yellow” warning level, which means flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

Maring has maintained its strength as it passed by Rizal-Metro Manila, Pagasa said at 2p.m.

The tropical depression, which made landfall over Mauban, Quezon in the morning, packed maximum sustained winds of 60 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 100 kph.

It moved west northwest at 15 kph.

Signal No. 1 was raised over Metro Manila, Camarines Norte, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Northern Quezon incl. Polillo Island, Southern Aurora, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan and Pangasinan.

The tropical cyclone signal over Camarines Sur is now lifted, Pagasa said.
