LUCENA CITY – A three-month-old boy died while 10 others were injured after strong rains brought by Tropical Depression “Maring” caused a rip-rap protection wall to collapse at the back of a hospital here, burying three houses.

Lucena Police Chief Supt. Arturo Brual Jr. said the accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, at the back of Mount Carmel Diocesan General Hospital, which was currently undergoing land-filling to create more open space.

He said rescuers from the city disaster risk reduction management office, firemen and police who rushed to the site were able to rescue 11 persons from the rubble. They were brought to the emergency station of the hospital.

Unfortunately, Brual said, the still unidentified infant was declared dead by the attending physician. /kga
