Typhoon ‘Lannie’, Tropical Depression ‘Maring’ enter PH

Signal No. 1 was raised over areas off the coast of eastern and southern Luzon as Typhoon “Lannie” (international name: Talim) and Tropical Depression “Maring” entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Monday, the weather bureau said.

As of 4 p.m. on Monday, Lannie was spotted 1,370 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan province, packing maximum winds of 145 km per hour and gustiness up to 28 kph.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the typhoon is not expected to make landfall in the the country as it moves northwest toward Taiwan.

Maring, on the other hand, was 300 km east of Infanta, Quezon province, as of 4 p.m. on Monday and packing maximum winds of 60 kph and gustiness up to 13 kph. It is expected to make landfall in the Aurora-Quezon area this afternoon and continue across southern and central Luzon.

Signal No. 1 was raised in Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Polillo Island, Aurora, Quirino and Nueva Ecija. A yellow rainfall warning was also issued over Quezon, Laguna and Batangas.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected today over the Bicol region, Aurora, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales and Pangasinan.

Pagasa said Lannie and Maring were expected to take separate paths and their effects would be felt separately. Both are expected to exit the PAR by Thursday.
