As tension hounded opposing demonstrators outside the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB), or Heroes’ Cemetery, where the 100th birthday of late strongman Ferdinand Marcos was being celebrated on Monday, an argument between activist Mae Paner, popularly known as Juana Change, and a Marcos loyalist ended up in a rather quirky fashion: a selfie.
Paner, who joined militant groups protesting the birthday party for Marcos, said she was walking towards the line of policemen when a Marcos loyalist followed and tried to block her. Then, a confrontation ensued.
“Nakita kasi ako nung pulis at pinagtuturo ako. So, nung pumasok ako, hinabol ako nung mamang ‘yon na bejeweled,” Paner narrated.
The man attempted to prevent her from walking further, but Paner tried to defy him.
In the end, however, cooler heads prevailed, and both solved their issue with a selfie. KGA
