No lead yet on Ali Peek shooting

Police are hopeful they will have a break soon in the shooting of Talk ‘N Text cager Ali Peek in Mandaluyong City.

Senior  Supt. Armando Bolalin, chief of police, told the Inquirer that a follow-up operation somewhere in the province yielded information that could help investigators move forward in the case.

Bolalin, however, said the information would still have to be verified by the other witnesses. He refused to elaborate.

“We will know by next week if (we have a break or not),” Bolalin said.

He said that while many people had come forward following TNT owner Manny Pangilinan’s announcement of a P500,000 reward for the arrest of Peek’s gunman, the information they provided would still have to be screened to avoid any “pranks” or “false leads.”

As of press time, police have yet to determine the motive for the attack on the player.

The 6’4” Peek plays center for the TNT in the Philippine Basketball Association.

He was shot in the nape in the parking lot of RFM Gym on the corner of Sheridan and Pioneer Streets.

Initial reports showed that the gunman approached Peek from behind as he was about to board his car.

While no one saw the actual shooting, witnesses said that they saw a man wearing a light green T-shirt and a pair of khaki cargo shorts running away from Peek’s car at that time.
