The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Friday issued a tsunami advisory for coastal areas facing the Pacific Ocean following an 8.0 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Chiapas, Mexico.

“No evacuation order is in effect,” the advisory issued at 1:09 p.m. said.
The coastal communities of the following provinces fronting the Pacific Ocean were advised to wait and listen for updates.
These provinces include:
- Batanes Group of Islands
- Cagayan
- Ilocos Norte
- Isabela
- Quezon
- Aurora
- Camarines Norte
- Camarines Sur
- Albay
- Catanduanes
- Sorsogon
- Eastern Samar
- Northern Samar
- Leyte
- Southern Leyte
- Surigao del Norte
- Surigao del Sur
- Davao Oriental
- Davao del Norte
- Davao del Sur
- Davao Occidental
The US Geological Survey said the tremor (Thursday night in Mexico) had a magnitude of 8.0 and its epicenter was 165 kilometers west of Tapachula in southern Chiapas state. It had a depth of 35 kilometers. JPV
