A stray bullet killed a government employee in the main campus of the Mindanao State University (MSU), which is located about five kilometers from the main battle area in Marawi City.

Joint Task Force Marawi deputy commander Col. Romeo Brawner identified the fatality as Marvin Ablando, 44, who worked for the Civil Service Commission.

Brawner also said that Ablando’s companion identified as Zandra Arnica Uzman, 43, was wounded in the incident that took place Thursday morning.

According to Brawner, the two were alighting from a vehicle when stray bullets hit them. The victims were rushed to the Amai Pakpak Hospital, where Ablando also consequently died.

Clashes between government forces and IS-linked Maute Group have been going on since May 23. The MSU only resumed its classes last August 22, or almost three months after the fighting started. KGA
