Cebu Pacific Air gave 11 soldiers who were wounded-in-action in the ongoing conflict in Marawi free trips back to their mother units.
The soldiers took on Monday Cebu Pacific flights from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 3 to Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban, Pagadian and Cotabato cities where their mother units are based.
The wounded servicemen were earlier released from confinement at the Army General Hospital in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, according to Lt. Col. Ray Tiongco, who accompanied the soldiers to their respective flights.
“The Philippine Army is thankful for this kind of gesture of support for our soldiers who are now returning to their respective units for combat. It is a meaningful gesture to make your soldiers feel that their sacrifices are being recognized and appreciated,” he said.
Cebu Pacific communications director Charo Logarta said wounded-in-action soldiers who had already recovered and were fit to travel could avail of the free flights at Naia or the Laguindingan Airport in Cagayan de Oro, that would take them to more than 30 domestic destinations. —Jerome Aning
