Zambales town mayor survives ambush

OLONGAPO CITY — Unidentified gunmen attacked the vehicle of the mayor of San Felipe town in Zambales province on Monday morning, police said.

Initial reports from the San Felipe Police Station said Mayor Carolyn Fariñas’ Toyota Innova was ambushed by two motorcycle-riding assailants at 7: 50 a.m. in Mendaros St. near the highway.

The mayor and her staffer, John Ray Ramil, were unhurt, but glass from the shattered windshield injured the face of her driver, Raul Rosete.

Police said the suspects, who were on board a green Euro motorcycle with plate number 7979 UY, fired at the mayor’s vehicle five times.

The suspects fled towards the north direction and abandoned their motorcycle in Barangay (village) Sindol in the same town. JE
