Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said Marinduque now has additional supply of electricity with the launch of a 5-megawatt diesel-fired power plant last week.
The Boac Diesel Power Plant in the capital Boac is comprised of five modular generating units, each with a capacity of 1 MW.
“Projects such as this diesel plant allow us to empower our communities, giving Marinduque the hope to dream bigger for a brighter future,” Cusi said in a statement.
“(This is) a prelude to our vision of total electrification for all our rural areas nationwide,” he added.
Last week, the National Electrification Administration marked its 12 millionth customer connection under the rural electrification program as it revved up efforts toward full electrification by 2022. —Ronnel W. Domingo
