Pagasa monitoring bad weather east of Luzon

The state weather bureau is tracking a weather disturbance east of Northern Luzon.

The low pressure area (LPA) was last spotted 1,000 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tuesday.

The intertropical convergence zone, the breeding ground of low pressure areas as winds from different directions meet, is affecting Southern Luzon and the Visayas.

“Cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and possible occasionally heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning due to thunderstorm will be Mimaropa over the  regions of Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern and Western Visayas and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon,” Pagasa said.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies except for isolated light to occasionally heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country, it said.

A tropical storm was also spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility at 2,660 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon.

Storm “Sanvu” was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 80 kph. It was too far away to directly affect the country.

It was slowly moving north northeast, Pagasa said. FM / CBB
