The Department of Labor and Employment has reminded all private employers to give double pay to their workers who report today, National Heroes Day, which is a regular holiday.

“Proper observance of the pay rules on regular holidays and special nonworking days will lead to more productive and competent employees,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said on Sunday.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier declared Aug. 28 a regular holiday nationwide by virtue of Proclamation No. 50.

Employees who report for work on a regular holiday is entitled to receive 200 percent of their basic wages for the first eight hours. Those who work beyond eight hours should receive an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate, Bello said.
