The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has alerted consumers of another possible red tide contamination and advised them against eating shellfish for the time being, bringing the affected areas to 12.
Affected are Irong-Irong Bay, Marqueda Bay and Villareal Bay in Western Samar; Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar; Balite Bay, Mati in Davao Oriental; Tambobo Bay, Siaton in Negros Oriental; Inner Malampaya Sound, Taytay and Puerto Princesa Bay in Palawan; coastal waters of Gigantes Island, Carles in Iloilo; coastal waters of Mandaon, and Placer in Masbate.
The coastal waters of Daram Island in Western Samar are also now positive for the red tide toxin less than a week after the Carigara Bay in Leyte also tested positive of the harmful algae.
