Around 40 families were left homeless in two fires that broke out in Taguig City on Thursday afternoon. The first fire started at 12:30 p.m. on Sampaguita Street, Barangay Western Bicutan, affecting about 40 houses. No one was reported injured in the fire that reached the third alarm and raged for an hour and a half. The second fire hit a neighborhood on Plaza Onse, Barangay Central, at 1:15 p.m., destroying two houses and a backyard piggery, a fire department official said. All but one of the 15 pigs being raised by couple Solis and Rufina Ilanto were roasted alive before the fire was declared out an hour later, according to Chief Insp. Severino Sevilla of the Bureau of Fire and Protection-Taguig. —DEXTER CABALZA
