PNP-IAS gives green light to probe 14 cops in Kian slay

The Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) has given a go signal to proceed with the investigation of the 14 cops involved in the August 16 drug raid in Caloocan City that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos.

PNP Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa disclosed this on Thursday when he faced the investigation of the Senate committee on public order and illegal drugs on the incident.

Dela Rosa said the three policemen— Police Officer 3 Arnel Oares, PO1 Jerwin Cruz, and PO1 Jeremias Pereda — accused of killing the teen are already under restrictive custody while the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) was conducting its own probe.

“While IAS has already submitted to me a recommendation just yesterday to proceed with the pre-charged investigation against the three policemen, your honor,” he said.

But the PNP chief immediately corrected his statement.

“Fourteen, not only these three but all the 14 policemen involved in the Oplan Galugad was recommended by the IG (Inspector General) IAS to be submitted to pre-charge investigation,” Dela Rosa added, responding to queries of neophyte Senator Manny Pacquiao. JE
