4 killed, 2 hurt in Pangasinan road crashes

DAGUPAN CITY—Four people were killed while two others were hurt in three separate road accidents in Pangasinan province on Wednesday night (Aug. 23), police said.

Louie Lacusong, 37, and his backrider, Jaime Bernales, 29, did not reach the hospital alive after their motorcycle collided with another motorcycle as they drove through the Manila North Road in Barangay (village) San Vicente in Urdaneta City at 10:32 p.m.

John Dave de Guzman, 20, driver of the other motorcycle, died at 3 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 24) while being treated at a hospital, according to PO3 Alberto Quiros, Urdaneta police investigator.

Quiros said the motorcycle drivers were both drunk as they sped through the highway and were not wearing helmets.

In Binmaley town, Abraham dela Cruz, 50, was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a pickup truck as both vehicles traversed the Dagupan-Binmaley Road in Barangay Naguilayan at about 11:55 p.m.

Pickup truck driver Ernesto Flor, 53, told police that as he traversed the eastbound lane of the road, he noticed the motorcycle on the westbound lane swerve towards his direction.

Flor said he quickly took his vehicle to the road’s shoulder but the motorcycle still crashed into his vehicle.

In Infanta town, motorcycle driver Florencio Modelo, 41, and tricycle driver Rowel Madarang, 31, were injured when their vehicles collided as they drove through the Olongapo-Bugallon Road in Barangay Batang at 7:30 p.m.

Police said the motorcycle was speeding through the road’s northbound lane when it slid and crashed into the tricycle traversing the southbound lane.

Police said the motorcycle driver may have lost control of his vehicle because of the heavy rains at that time. Gabriel Cardinoza INQ
