Cops show no letup despite furor over Kian killing

The police shot dead two more drug suspects in Quezon City and Caloocan from Monday night to Tuesday morning, showing no letup despite the widespread furor over the killing of 17-year-old Kian Loyd Delos Santos last week.

A buy-bust operation launched by the Quezon City Police District’s Anonas station ended in the death of a man known only as Randy around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Randy reportedly traded shots with the officers on Zigzag Road, Barangay Pansol, using a .38-caliber revolver. Four sachets of suspected “shabu” were later recovered from him, the QCPD said.

In Caloocan, Joel Paloy Agosto, 37, was killed after allegedly shooting it out with the police in a drug sting in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang.

Four other suspects were arrested in the operation led by Chief Insp. Ronald Cayago of Police Community Precinct 3.

Three Caloocan policemen are facing investigation for the death of Delos Santos, after a video footage and eyewitnesses surfaced disputing their statement that the Grade 12 student was killed in an Aug. 16 raid because he fired at them first using a .45-caliber pistol.

An autopsy ordered by the Public Attorneys Office citedsigns that the boy was shot thrice while lying face down, indicating an “intentional killing.”

On Monday night, as a protest rally on Edsa condemned the surge in drug killings, President Duterte said the policemen would be jailed if proven that what they did to the boy was a “rubout.” —Krixia Subingsubing and Jhesset O. Eñano
