TACLOBAN CITY — The National Housing Authority (NHA) is providing permanent shelters to families whose houses were destroyed when a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Ormoc City in Leyte province on July 6.
The government, through the NHA, would spend about P345 million, at P300,000 per housing unit, for families who lost their houses during the quake.
Records from the Ormoc government showed that about 1,150 houses were destroyed while 1,122 were damaged.
Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez said the city government was ready to spend P70 million to buy land for the housing project.
Families displaced by the earthquake are staying in temporary shelters in the villages of Dolores, Luna, Doña Mejia and San Pablo. —Joey A. Gabieta
