ORMOC CITY, Leyte — The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) is expected to conduct an investigation on what caused a fastcraft to ram into the port of Ormoc City about noon on Monday.

Cmdr. Lawrence Roque, Coast Guard spokesperson in Eastern Visayas, said they were waiting for investigators from Marina to arrive and start the investigation on Ocean Jet 12.

Roque said Ocean Jet 12 left Ormoc for Cebu City at 11:50 a.m. with 210 passengers and 20 crew members.

But he said the ship captain decided to return to port since there was a problem with the steering wheel.

While returning to the port, the vessel’s starboard side slammed into the port.

Roque said there was a cut of about 4 feet on the starboard side while the port’s rubber tender was damaged. –Robert Dejon /atm
