Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa has ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to investigate the death of a 17-year-old in a drug operation in Caloocan City.

“Chief PNP was very much dismayed with the result of the operations which resulted in the killing of the minor. Unfortunately, ito ang ating iniimbestigahan,” PNP spokesperson Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos said in a briefing on Monday.

“May mga lumalabas na eyewitnesses kung tumutugma sa sinasabi nila ang naganap kaya we have an investigation para makita ang katotohanan,” he added.

Seventeen-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos, a Grade 11 student, died after he was shot during a police operation in Barangay 160 last Wednesday, August 16, 2017.

Police claimed Delos Santos resisted authorities and allegedly fired at them, prompting them to fire back. But witnesses claimed that the police account was not true.

“That’s why the Chief PNP has ordered the CIDG form the national headquarters level to look into the case,” Carlos said.

The PNP Internal Affairs Service is also conducting its own investigation.

“Ang PNP IAS ang nagcoconduct ng motu proprio investigation pag may namamatay sa paggamit ng baril sa police operations,” Carlos said.

Caloocan City police chief Senior Supt. Chito Bersaluna and three other policemen who were allegedly involved in the incident, were relieved from their posts after the controversial death of the minor. CBB
