Senator Leila de Lima called President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to investigate the killing of 17-year-old Kian delos Santos a “farcical joke.”
“The chief instigator and mastermind of the daily carnage ordering a probe into the Kian killing? What a farcical joke!” De Lima said in a handwritten statement.
“Sobra na ang mga panloloko at panlilinlang nyo sa taong bayan (Your deceit and duplicity is too much),” she said.
The senator, who is among the President’s harshest critics, is currently detained in Camp Crame for drug charges.
Her supporters have accused the administration of filing trumped up charges against De Lima because of her criticisms of the war against illegal drugs.
In the past, De Lima has investigated Duterte’s links to the Davao Death Squad. She has also spoken against extrajudicial killings committed in the guise of the anti-illegal drugs campaign.
The death of Delos Santos has attracted a lot of attention, especially on social media. A closed-circuit television footage and witnesses accounts belied police reports that he shot at the policemen before he was gunned down.
