LRT 2 limits operations after fire damages system

/ 10:13 AM August 20, 2017

Following a fire Saturday night, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2’s operations will be limited to and from Santolan and Cubao stations starting 4:30 a.m., the LRT Authority announced on Sunday morning.

The LRTA said in an advisory that the downgraded operations would “give way to the ongoing repair of the power cables, signaling and telecommunications fiber optics system that were damaged by Saturday night’s fire.”

“A fire broke out at 9:57 p.m. near the Pureza station due to a burnt junction box of the overhead catenary wire that supply 1,500 volts DC to the train,” LRTA said in an advisory posted on its official Twitter account.

“The exposed cables were possibly affected by the downpour and lightning that cascaded to the junction box,” the advisory added.

LRTA said that its maintenance team is working double time to restore full operations the soonest possible time. CBB
