Off-duty cop survives grenade attack at home in Cotabato City

COTABATO CITY – An off-duty police officer assigned in Maguindanao survived a grenade attack in his home in Barangay Rosary Heights 3 here Tuesday night.

Inspector Rommel Canto, police station 1 chief, said PO2 Samsodin Yusoph, 41, sustained shrapnel injuries in the legs and was now recuperating at a hospital.

According to Canto, Yusoph, a police officer assigned in Datu Angal Midtimbang police station in Datu Angal town in Maguindanao, was sitting in front of his house in Barangay Rosary Heights 3 when two men, riding in tandem on a motorbike, tossed a hand grenade.

Witnesses told police that the two quickly sped as the grenade went off in front of Yusoph’s house.

Canto, quoting the victim’s neighbors, said the two were in complete police uniform.  Village watchmen manning a checkpoint also noticed two men in police uniform passing by the outpost before the explosion. Edwin O. Fernandez Inquirer Mindanao
