Woman with worsening kidney ailment appeals for help
First diagnosed in July 2016 with stage 4 chronic kidney disease, Sandy Centeno’s condition has worsened to stage 5 after she failed to undergo regular treatment for lack of money.
Sandy, who is 38 years old, also suffers from severe anemia due to her work as a call center agent for over a decade.
She needs to undergo chelation therapy, but the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office has told her family that this type of treatment is not covered by its assistance program.
To raise her red blood cells production, Sandy must be injected with erythropoietin two to three times a week at P5,000 per injection. Her current hemoglobin count is only 6.5, lower than the normal 15.
On top of this, she needs at least P6,000 a week for her kidney medication. All in all, Sandy must spend around P26,000 weekly, an amount her family cannot raise since she and her parents are unemployed.
