Several senators on Friday said mounting calls for the resignation of Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, who was embroiled in a controversy involving a P6.4-billion “shabu” (crystal meth) shipment from China, were enough basis for Malacañang to “show him the door.”
Sen. Panfilo Lacson questioned President Duterte’s apparent silence over the controversy. “Aren’t you mad at the BOC (Bureau of Customs), Mr. President?” he said on his Twitter account on Friday.
“The bipartisan clamor should be enough basis for Malacañang to show the door to the commissioner,” Sen. Francis Pangilinan said.
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said Mr. Duterte’s position on the Customs scandal should not be taken as one of silence or tolerance of corruption. —JOCELYN UY AND LEILA SALAVERRIA
