SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna—The city government of Sta. Rosa City in Laguna had canceled government work following a strong earthquake on Friday afternoon.
Marian Navarrete, an employee of the city hall, said city mayor Danilo Fernandez announced the work cancellation and sent them all home as they continued to feel two more aftershocks.
The city also ordered the cancellation of classes in all levels, said Rommel Palacol of the Laguna Action Center.
A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck past 1 p.m. and was felt in parts of Laguna, Batangas, Cavite and Metro Manila.

In Batangas City, provincial disaster risk reduction and management council officer Lito Castro said the earthquake was felt at different intensities in the province.
He said he happened to be in a mall in Batangas City where people ducked and covered, while others calmly headed for the exits.
Castro said disaster responders in Lian town, the quake’s epicenter, and in Nasugbu were going around to inspect the area.
No damages were reported so far.
