Drug suspect killed in ‘shootout’ in Cagayan

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—A drug suspect was killed at a drug bust in Gattaran town in Cagayan province on Thursday afternoon.

Vilmer Corpuz clashed with an undercover police officers in Barangay (village) Naddungan at 2:20 p.m., a police report says.

The suspect arrived on a motorcycle at the pre-arranged place of transaction, alighted and approached an unidentified police operative.

Corpuz reportedly drew his cal. 38 revolver and fired at the police officer, prompting the lawman to fire back.

Police said Corpuz belonged to the police “baseline watchlist” of suspected drug pushers in the locality.

Recovered from the crime scene was a heat-sealed plastic sachet containing an undetermined amount of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and the revolver.
