MANILA, Philippines—A health department official has ordered government hospitals and health centers in Metro Manila to immediately report suspected dengue cases to the regional office to prevent further transmission of the mosquito-borne disease.
The health agency has monitored a “continuing decline” in the rate of increase in dengue cases in the capital, said Dr. Eduardo Janairo of the DoH Center for Health Development in Metro Manila.
“We expect that this trend will continue up to the end of this year [as] there are now areas with zero dengue cases for the past weeks and we would like to maintain their current status, hence the need to immediately report suspected cases to stop its transmission,” said Janairo.
So far, Quezon City has still the highest number of dengue cases with 7,742; Manila has 3,368 dengue cases; Caloocan, 2,616; Valenzuela, 1,443; Pasig, 1,204; Malabon, 1,031; Paranaque, 1,020; Taguig, 748; Navotas, 624 and Pasay has 699 reported cases since January.
