Hog trader shot dead in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, PANGASINAN — A businessman was gunned down in Binmaley town in Pangasinan province on Monday, police said Tuesday.

Police said Mervin de Vera, 40, was driving his tricycle along the San Carlos-Binmaley Road in Barangay Balagan at 5 p.m. when one of two men on a motorcycle shot him, hitting him below his left armpit. He died instantly.

De Vera’s passenger, his cousin Manuel Banaga, was not attacked. He took control of the tricycle as the attackers fled, said PO3 Jonathan Manuel, Binmaley police investigator.

Manuel said De Vera and Banaga had just left San Carlos City on their way to Ilocos Sur province to deliver piglets when they were attacked.

Recovered from the crime scene were a fired cartridge from a 9 mm pistol and two cartridges from a .45 cal. pistol. CBB
