Cebuano Fuentes may get shot at world title if he wins in PP10
IN HIS BID to regain the glory he lost almost a decade ago, Cebuano prizefighter Rocky “The Road Warrior” Fuentes tries to improve his rankings in four boxing governing bodies in his upcoming fight in Dec. 10 in the 10th edition of the Pinoy Pride series of ALA Boxing Promotions to be held at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
After successfully defending his OPBF flyweight title against tough opponents here and in Japan, Fuentes is aiming to improve his credentials. He now ranks no. 4 in the WBC, no. 7 in the WBA, no. 4 in the IBF and no. 6 in the WBO. He is slated to fight in the undercard of the Rey “Boom-boom” Bautista- Miguel Angel Mendoza bout. As of now, ALA Boxing Promotions has not announced Fuentes’ opponent.
A win in his upcoming fight could give him a strong chance of fighting for a world title or another regional title.
Fuentes, who has a 29-6-2 (win-loss-draw) record with 17 knockouts, lorded the Japanese boxing scene by winning against Mosufumi Okobo, Shigetaka Ikehara, Thai Inthanon Sithchamuang and Indonesian Jemmy Gobel here in Cebu. His latest victim is Hirofumi Mukai last Aug. 20. CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
