A 32-YEAR-OLD man was shot dead by his neighbor during a drinking session in barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City, last Wednesday night.
Diosdado Braga, 32, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
A suspect, Lino Cañete, 50, was arrested hours after the incident.
Police said Braga and Cañete had a drinking session with some neighbors which lasted past 9 p.m. When they ran out of drinks, the other neighbors went home while Braga and Cañete stayed behind.
Police said Cañete prodded Braga to buy more liquor. Braga turned down Cañete’s request that resulting into an argument.
While they were arguing, Cañete drew a gun and shot Braga several times.
The suspect fled after the shooting.
A security guard of the General Milling Corp. called police when he saw a man hiding underneath the docking area along the Mactan Channel.
Police searched the area but found no one.
Police and tanods stayed in the area for several hours until Cañete came out of the water.
Cañete said he was forced to show up because he felt cold underwater.
Canete admitted that he was jailed twice for illegal possession of firearm.
A charge of murder will be filed against Cañete, said police. CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
