Armed Forces chief General Eduardo Año visited the main battle area in Marawi City on Wednesday to check on the ground troops and the ongoing operations.

“Binigyan siya ng detailed presentation ng mga courses of action na binuo ng commanders (He was given a detailed presentation of the courses of action made by the commanders),” AFP public affairs chief Col. Edgard Arevalo told reporters.

The AFP chief was briefed on the plans for the final phase of the operations in Marawi City.

It was also an opportunity for him to speak with the field and tactical commanders on the ground.

“Stay focused on your mission. Stay alive. Keep safe. It will not be too long before we accomplish your task,” Arevalo quoted the AFP chief in his message to the troops.

The fighting between government forces and the IS-linked fighters started on May 23, killing hundreds of soldiers, terrorists and civilians. It also prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in Mindanao. Frances Mangosing/JE
