According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, a total of 5,719 illegal vendors were cleared by the Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group (SCOG) in the first quarter of 2017.
During the same period, 4,405 illegal obstructions and structures and 129 illegal informal settlers were cleared by the group.
To monitor the proliferation of illegal vendors and structures, 227 SCOG personnel were posted in various areas of Manila. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
