SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna—Heavy rains forced local governments to suspend afternoon classes in Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal provinces on Wednesday.
In Rizal province, the rain also resulted in gutter to waist-deep flood in at least seven subdivisions in Cainta town, said provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council officer Loel Malonzo.
“The rain started since 6 a.m. Major thoroughfares like the Ortigas Ave. extension and the Marcos Highway remain passable,” he said in a phone interview as of Wednesday noon. Rizal Avenue in the town proper of Taytay however was also flooded.
Malonzo said there were reports of minor erosion and toppled trees in Antipolo City although no one was reported hurt.
Meanwhile, Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez and Cavite Governor Jesus Crispin Remulla made separate announcements suspending afternoon classes in their provinces.
In Rizal, classes are suspended in all levels in Cardona, Jalajala, Cainta, Taytay, Morong and Teresa and in pre-school to senior high school in Tanay, Binangonan, Angono, and Antipolo City.
