At least three areas in Mindanao are “under threat” of new terror attacks, Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III disclosed on Wednesday.
Sotto said they were informed about these new terror plots in the region in a hastily-called meeting convened by President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacanang Tuesday.
“Meron discovered new plans of terrorists in other areas in Mindanao. He wants us posted on developments,” he said in a text message.
“Ang intindi ko around three areas are under threat,” Sotto added.
The senator refused to give further details when asked if he could identify the areas under new terror threats.
“I’d rather wait for the President to tell you. Very sensitive issues and I’m not authorized to divulge,” he said.
Asked again if the President had asked any specific help from Congress during the meeting, Sotto said: “Not yet, but he will eventually if they need pa.”
He said Duterte though expressed that he wants additional 20,000 personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The President placed the whole of Mindanao under martial law last May 23 after clashes erupted between government troops and the Maute terrorist group in Marawi City. CBB
