Bam recollects memory of aunt Cory Aquino
Senator Bam Aquino paid tribute on Tuesday to former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, whom he described not only as the “mother of democracy,” but also a loving, thoughtful, humble and gracious aunt.
August 1 marks the late president’s eighth death anniversary. Cory Aquino succumbed to colon cancer in 2009.
“She is often referred to as the mother of our democracy, but to me, she was primarily a loving, thoughtful, humble and gracious aunt,” Senator Aquino said in a statement.
“She inspired a generation to continue the work of safeguarding our freedom and improving the lives of our countrymen,” he added.
The senator also recalled her aunt’s statement, “I don’t have any formula for ousting a dictator or building democracy. All I can suggest is to forget about yourself and just think of your people. It’s always the people who make things happen.”
