5 suspected rebels torch school warehouse in Ecija
CABANATUAN CITY – Five armed men, who claimed to be members of the New People’s Army, set fire to a warehouse owned by an agriculture school in Nampicuan town in Nueva Ecija province Sunday.
Police said the men broke into the compound of the Gallego Institute of Agriculture Industry in Cabaducan village at about 2 a.m.
The armed group introduced themselves as communist rebels and fired several shots in the air before they torched the warehouse containing a motor glider, spare parts, power generator parts and a water pump, according to Reynaldo Lapurga, 56, the warehouse caretaker. JE
