Members of the so-called “Gapos Gang” robbed two houses in an exclusive subdivision on Wednesday afternoon in Quezon City and took over P335,000 worth of valuables.
Seven armed men using handkerchiefs to hide their features entered a compound in Don Enrique Heights Subdivision, Barangay Holy Spirit, where the houses were located, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD). At that time, only three housemaids were at home.
A report to Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, QCPD director, said the armed suspects alighted from a white Toyota Hiace Grandia van parked in front of the compound and entered the gate which had been left open.
They then split into two groups to ransack the houses after tying up the housemaids using packaging tape.
Chief Insp. Titoy Jay Cuden, QCPD public information chief, said the robbers did not harm the 10-year-old grandchild of one of the homeowners, who had then just arrived from school.
The suspects’ loot included several designer watches, shoes, cell phones and other gadgets. They also took two guns worth P140,000.
The police said the housemaids were told by the robbers they were just following orders and that they had a score to settle with one of the house owners.
Right after the suspects left, the 10-year-old helped free the housemaids who immediately reported the burglary to barangay officials.
Cuden said that Wednesday’s robbery was the first time the gang struck in the city since July last year. The group earned the moniker “Gapos” (to tie up) gang for tying up their victims.
