BALANGA CITY, Philippines—The owner of a money changing shop in this city was shot dead when he refused to hand over money to a gunman on Wednesday.

Eric Nuestro, 51, was about to leave his shop with his wife at the Naval Commercial Building when he was accosted by the robber at 6:35 p.m. The suspect, who was wearing a helmet, fled on a motorcycle after shooting Nuestro.

Bystanders said Nuestro acted as if he was the target of a prank, before the gunman killed him.

The robbery took place at a building which was a five-minute drive away from the city police station, at the heart of Balanga.—Greg Refraccion/rga
