Holdup man charged

A case was filed on Wednesday before the city prosecutor’s office against a street gang member, one of four men accused of robbing passengers of a public utility vehicle in Manila. Operatives of the Manila Police District Intelligence Operations Unit (MPD-DPIOU) charged with robbery  Dondon Cruz, 23, allegedly a member of the Sputnik Gang and a resident of Lico Street in Tondo. MPD-DPIOU head Chief Insp. Daniel Buyao Jr. said that Cruz was positively identified by  one of the victims, Maricel Moring, as one of the four men who had robbed her and her co-passengers on Rizal Avenue near Bulacan Street in Sta. Cruz. Buyao said that based on Moring’s complaint, Cruz and his alleged cohorts who were all armed with knives took her cell phone and P4,000 in cash before running toward Lico Street.  A follow-up operation in the area led to the arrest of Cruz. Baseco gets new seawall

In a bid to prevent flooding and cases of drowning in the area when typhoons cause the Pasig River to swell,  a new seawall barrier has been put up at the Baseco compound in Tondo. Inaugurated last week, the seawall measures 2.5 meters high and 180 meters long and is topped off by a steel fence as a safeguard for children, city engineer Armando Andres said. Mayor Alfredo Lim ordered the city electrician’s office to put up lamp posts in the area so that it could be “a mini-baywalk” for residents. Jaymee T. Gamil
