Police gunned down two drug suspects in an alleged shootout in the middle of a busy thoroughfare in Cainta, Rizal, Monday night.
Investigator PO3 Ojie Bidaure identified those slain only as alias “Bilog” and alias “Alfonz,” whom police said were “high-value targets” who operated in Pasig City.
Bidaure told Inquirer.net that Bilog and Alfonz were shot dead while fleeing pursuing lawmen from the Rizal Provincial Police Office
According to the investigator, a policeman managed to buy drugs from the two in an operation somewhere in Pasig early Monday night.
But before other lawmen could move in to arrest the suspects, the two managed to drive away in a silver-gray Toyota sedan.
Policemen caught up with the duo along the southbound lane of Felix Avenue in front of the BDO bank branch in Barangay Sto. Domingo at about 8:20 p.m.
Traffic enforcer Albert Baquir said he was manning traffic in front of SM Hypermart, some 50 meters away, when he saw a motorcycle block the path of the car.
Two men got off the motorcycle and shooting followed.
“Hinarang lang tapos biglang nagbarilan na,” (They blocked the car and suddenly opened fire) Baquir told the Inquirer.
Baquir said another group of men on the side of the road also opened fire at the vehicle.
“Parang inabangan talaga sila,” (It appeared the gunmen waited for them) the witness said.
Scene of the crime investigators later found at least 45 spent ammunition casings outside the bullet-riddled car.
They also found a .38-caliber revolver and a pistol from inside the suspects’ car. It was not immediately clear if police found illegal drugs in the vehicle.
After the incident, the shooters immediately drove off, witnesses said. CBB
