A total of 6,278 jaywalkers were apprehended by four antijaywalking units during operations on Edsa-Quezon Avenue, Edsa-Taft Avenue, Edsa-Ortigas, and Edsa-Ayala Avenue in the first quarter of 2017, according to the latest report of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
Violators can either attend the required seminar which is scheduled every last Friday of the month or pay a P500 fine.
The MMDA also has a bus which serves as a “mobile classroom” where violators will be given lectures by personnel on road safety and traffic signs. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
