DAVAO CITY – The main suspect in the rape-slay of a 19-year old beauty titlist on the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) was killed Monday after he allegedly tried to wrestle a gun from a police escort.
Supt. Noel Asumen, the Igacos police chief, said Elvin Juna, 20, complained of a stomach ache early morning Monday and was being rushed to a hospital when he was shot dead by one of the police escorts.
Asumen said Juna, while being led outside the police station, suddenly tried to wrestle the gun of one of the police escorts at about 4:30 a.m.
He allegedly managed to un-cuff himself, using a piece of wire.
He was shot dead there and then.
Juna was arrested on July 20, a day after the body of Kimberly Autida was found dumped in a buffalo watering hole.
A shirt allegedly belonging to Juna, a neighbor of the victim’s, was also found near the body.
During interrogation, Juna allegedly eventually owned up to the crime.
Autida, a 3rd year Community Development student at the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) Mintal Campus here, was last seen going to her grandparent’s house in Igacos earlier on July 19.
An autopsy revealed she died from a damaged liver after being punched hard in the body. CBB
