Boy killed, 9 others hurt in Calapan road accident

CITY OF CALAPAN – A nine-year-old boy was killed while nine others were hurt in an accident caused by reckless driving Sunday night in Barangay (village) Guinobatan in this city, police said Monday.

Supt. Jonathan Paguio, Calapan police chief, said the accident happened along the Strong Republic Nautical Highway at about 7 p.m. It involved a tricycle driven by Lito Aboboto, 32, of Barangay Guinobatan, and a motorcycle driven by Reynaldo Villanueca, 32, of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

Paguio said Aboboto was transporting eight passengers — five of whom were children — when the motorcycle of Villanueca swerved and rammed the tricycle.

Both drivers and all passengers sustained serious injuries and were brought to the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital.

Passenger Chrison Hernandez, 9, a Grade 5 pupil, died while being taken to the hospital.

The Aboboto and his passengers had just come from Barangay Puting Tubig while the Villanueca was coming from the opposite direction when the motorcycle crossed into the lane of the tricycle and triggered a collision. CBB
