DAVAO CITY — A farmer activist was killed while her husband, daughter and two grandchildren were in critical condition at a hospital after armed men attacked them in Compostela Valley on Thursday.

Carolina Arado died from gunshot wounds. Her family was at home in the village of Anitapan in Mabini town when the gunmen came, according to Christopher Alia, of the group Hugpong sa Maguuma sa Mabini (Humabin).

The Arados were active members of Humabin, which had spoken out against alleged military abuses in the town, Alia said. —Karlos Manlupig
