For nth time, Napoles seeks bail

/ 07:23 AM July 12, 2017

Detained businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, the suspected brains of the P10-billion pork barrel scam, has asked the Supreme Court for the nth time to grant her temporary liberty while facing trial for plunder in the Sandiganbayan.

Napoles reiterated her request in a reply to her bail petition involving the P173-million plunder case against former Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile.

Her latest pleading was submitted on July 6, exactly two months after the Court of Appeals acquitted her in the serious illegal detention case filed against her by her estranged cousin, primary whistleblower Benhur Luy.

In seeking the high court’s permission for her to post bail for a nonbailable offense, Napoles said the witnesses’ testimonies “failed to prove the alleged conspiracy” between her, Enrile and his former chief-of-staff, lawyer Jessica Lucila Reyes. —Marlon Ramos
