A total of 19 transferees from besieged Marawi City have been granted full scholarships at the city-run University of Makati (UMak).

Based on the university registrar’s records, 13 were admitted as college students while six were enrolled as senior high school students at the Higher School ng UMak.

Makati Mayor Abby Binay earlier directed UMak to accept transferees from Marawi, including the children of soldiers killed in action.

After university classes started on June 19, the admission office remained open for three weeks to accommodate applicants.

The students displaced by the attack of Islamist-inspired Maute group were asked to present an endorsement from the local government or any document showing they studied or came from Marawi where fighting has been raging since May 23.
