6 alleged rebels nabbed in Pampanga city for extortion try
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Six alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA), including an 80-year-old man, were arrested in this Pampanga capital on Monday (July 3) for reportedly attempting to extort money from a businessman.
Leonides Ramos, 80; Jay Dizon, 40; Jobeth Caranza, 27; Darwin Santiago, 36; Roderick Laxamana,42; and Alex Guevarra, 38, were apprehended in Barangay (village) Del Pilar at past 10 a.m. following a complaint by businessman Ladislao del Rosario, a resident of that village, said Supt. Roland Agohob, San Fernando police chief.
Authorities did not disclose the amount nor items which the suspects demanded. No details were also released explaining how they were tied to the NPA.
The police reported recovering from the suspects a hand grenade, a .38-pistol, a revolver, a .22-pistol, a 9mm handgun, five sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), and two cars with licensed plate numbers ABJ 4046 and WGL847.
They are held at the Pampanga province police camp at the provincial capitol. SFM
