MANILA, Philippines — Rescuers found the body of one of the three teenagers who reportedly drowned in a river in San Mateo, Rizal, on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The body of a 14-year-old boy known only by his nickname “John Jalani,” was fished out of the San Mateo River in Barangay (village) Dulong Bayan Uno at 10 a.m., two hours after a search which began when the incident was first reported.
Teddy Apiladas, head of the San Mateo rescue team, said two other teenagers identified as Hermisto Pareño, 13, and a certain Mark Christopher, 16, were still missing.
Three female companions of the victims survived the incident.
Apiladas said the teenagers, all residents of Quezon City, went to San Mateo River for a swim but three of them were swept away by the current.
